Performa is Here to Take Your Health Seriously

State of the art wellness center opens in Hato Rey

With the official opening of Performa, the island has a new wellness center that has nothing to envy other wellness centers in the main cities of the world.

This ample locale, at 209 Eleanor Roosevelt avenue in San Juan’s Hato Rey sector, has two floors dedicated to the wellbeing of its members aided by professional employees who specialize in diverse areas to offer their clients a first class service.

‘This is a wellness center. Here we offer people more than 15 services with their membership and we take you by the hand to achieve your goals in a safe manner’, Omar de Jesús, general manager of Performa, told NotiCel during the grand opening for the 17,000 square feet locale.

De Jesús detailed that once a client arrives at the center, they are submitted to a series of medical examinations and evaluations with doctors and trainers to create a routine tailored to their condition and goals. They will also have access to nutritionists which will design an effective diet plan, and also assistance from a personal trainer during the routine.

‘This is the first concept of this level in the area of fitness in Puerto Rico. Once you come here, you do not have to go anywhere else to perform an exercise routine in a safe manner,’ De Jesús added.

The center also offers classes on taekwondo, yoga, pilates, cycling, zumba, boot camp, among others. It also offers a Wellness Bar and coffee served by certified baristas.

Even before its opening, Performa served as headquarters for the Puerto Rican National Taekwondo Team, and its members are now official instructors of the gym.

‘We were looking for a place where we felt comfortable, which wouldn’t be the same place where people with beautiful bodies go and that’s it, but a place where we could feel like home. And also a place where we could practice our discipline,’ said Luis Colón Vega, captain of the National Taekwondo Team. ‘This idea came during a coffee break. We said we would like to have a gymnasium, so let’s do it, but let’s do something innovative and where people can also have a place, a place like home. That was almost four years ago, and now it is a reality,’, he added.

Colón Vega pointed out that Performa is an open space to train where you can feel at home and looked after with first class services. ‘There’s no judging of bodies or people. We are all one. This is a family. There is honesty and respect here. It is what defines us. When you come in here, you feel at home because we will not judge you. We come with the goal of improving your health,’ he concluded.

Performa is a new business venture from investor Mark E. Curry, who is also Publisher of NotiCel.
