On Friday, the assembly of deans of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) RÃo Piedras campus offered a preliminary report of property damages and costs resulting from the interruption of various projects on campus.
The preliminary estimate of $463,900 in costs was the result of an inspection conducted by the deans, assistant deans, property managers and assistants, and the directors of the Conservation Office for University Facilities (OCIU, by its Spanish acronym) and the Environmental Protection and Occupational Safety Office (OPASO, by its Spanish acronym). So far, their assessment has been submitted through reports.
Out of the estimated amount, $99,670 correspond to the replacement of doors, locks, keys, glass, and fire hoses and extinguishers, as well as spraying, garbage disposal, debris removal, painting, replacing air conditioning units, and ornamentation expenses.
Additionally, $360,230 is the resulting cost from interrupting construction projects, as well as a loss of $4,000 in stolen computers.
To date, $29,000 have been paid for the fine established by the Court of First Instance.
