Why Is Oscar Wearing Black on His First Day of Freedom
During his first press conference on Wednesday from Escambrón Beach, Oscar López Rivera explained why he wore black the day he was officially released after more than three decades as a political prisoner in United States.
Here is the list of reasons he gave to dress this way:
1- 'During the years that I was imprisoned I could never wear black to mourn my deceased loved ones.'
2- Today 'the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia is being celebrated, and I want to express my solidarity with that community.'
3- 'I want to express my solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement.'
4- 'For my message is, and it shall be, one of love and not of hatred or fear.'
5- 'To express my solidarity with the political prisoners in US prisons and Ana Belén Montes.'
6- 'To express my solidarity with the University of Puerto Rico students.'
And he concluded:
Long live the struggle for a better and fairer world
