Bankruptcy Judge Returns Another Case Against Government

Federal Judge Laura Taylor Swain ordered the return to local courts on the case of the Senator from the Popular Democratic Party (PDP), Rossana López León, against the administration of Ricardo Rosselló to push for the publishing of documents, studies and models of projections used for the preparation of the Government's fiscal plan.

The news was broken by López herself. The judicial determination reactivates the case in local jurisdictions in which the public documents are claimed.

'The order of federal Judge Taylor Swain constitutes a new defeat for Ricardo Rosselló's government that grossly used the request for removal to federal jurisdiction, with the sole purpose of evading its responsibility to disclose documents of a public nature. These documents - which were used for the preparation of the fiscal plan - will show that the projections of income and savings used contain new cuts that have not yet been disclosed to the country and projections of overestimated income,' said the senator in written statements.

The PDP member stated that the tax plan was designed under a 10-year projection model in which cost reductions gradually increase in stages. According to the legislator, the projected figures of the plan, involve new cuts in a staggered way in different areas of services to citizens and public entities.

'In the same way that we were proven right when we announced the dismissal of over 5,000 temporary workers and the cutbacks in medical services, which had been denied by the government, the country will be aware of other cuts and privatizations that the Government has hidden for six months. Sooner or later the truth will out. '

López León said her lawyers will be filing a motion for the local court to order a hearing to reactivate the case against the government as soon as possible.
