Seg\u00fan la polic\u00eda de Los \u00c1ngeles, muri\u00f3 por causas naturales.<\/p>\n<p>Smith naci\u00f3 en Beaumont (Texas) en 1945 y comenz\u00f3 su carrera deportiva como defensor de f\u00fatbol en la Universidad de Michigan a mediados de los a\u00f1os 60. En 1967 fue elegido por los Baltimore Colts de la NFL, liga donde jug\u00f3 durante nueve temporadas. Con este equipo consigui\u00f3 su \u00fanico t\u00edtulo, en 1970.
