Viernes 17 de febrero de 2012 \u2013 Natalicio del tercer Gobernador electo por los puertorrique\u00f1os<\/p>\n

Un d\u00eda como hoy, hace 108 a\u00f1os, naci\u00f3 el tercer gobernador electo por los puertorrique\u00f1os y uno de los fil\u00e1ntropos m\u00e1s influyentes en la historia de Puerto Rico, distingui\u00e9ndose como la persona que so\u00f1\u00f3 y fund\u00f3 el Museo de Arte de Ponce: Luis A. Ferr\u00e9 Aguayo<\/p>\n

Hoy, en ocasi\u00f3n del aniversario del nacimiento de Luis A. Ferr\u00e9, compartimos este poema de una de las figuras cimeras de la literatura Nuyorican, Tato Laviera, quien escribi\u00f3 sobre don Luis:<\/p>\n

‘don luis a. ferr\u00e9’<\/p>\n

there were paintings<\/p>\n

and no poems in his name<\/p>\n

the young artists painted albizu,<\/p>\n

he started thinking of his grave,<\/p>\n

don luis a. Ferr\u00e9 fell asleep,<\/p>\n

a vision came his way:<\/p>\n

instead of state senator of u.s.a.,<\/p>\n

why not governor of an independent state,<\/p>\n

of a puerto rican-japanese state,<\/p>\n

methodologies and third world training,<\/p>\n

protecting the interests of the u.s.a,<\/p>\n

teaching english and spanish,<\/p>\n

to african and latin american states,<\/p>\n

plenty of money and military bases,<\/p>\n

and a faithful ally of the western world.<\/p>\n

there were no paintings<\/p>\n

and no poems in his name,<\/p>\n

the young artists painted albizu,<\/p>\n

he started thinking of his grave,<\/p>\n

don luis a. ferr\u00e9 fell asleep<\/p>\n

a vision came his way:<\/p>\n

why not the patriot ferr\u00e9?<\/p>

he could move the new progressive party,<\/p>\n

to major cities of the u.s.a.,<\/p>\n

and still be elected u.s. Senator in florida<\/p>\n

and eat crumbs to ways,<\/p>\n

in puerto rico and in the u.s.a.<\/p>\n

puerto rico, independence yes,<\/p>\n

estadistas still in power, yes,<\/p>\n

all his enemies will pay tribute,<\/p>\n

at least for that one day,<\/p>\n

his memoirs will be published,<\/p>\n

he will be quoted on the front page<\/p>\n

of the n.y. times,<\/p>\n

‘it took me, the capitalist ferr\u00e9,<\/p>\n

to complete what the pragmatist mu\u00f1oz<\/p>\n

and the revolutionary albizu<\/p>\n

had started long ago.’<\/p>\n

don luis a. ferr\u00e9 awoke,<\/p>\n

he was highly perplexed,<\/p>\n

one of his dreams had said, ‘yes.’<\/p>\n

‘No debe prevalecer conveniencia partidista alguna donde el bien de nuestro pueblo est\u00e1 envuelto; no hay justicia sin un gobierno que responda con comprensi\u00f3n y eficacia a las necesidades del pueblo. …<\/p>\n

Que no haya ghettos de ignorancia, ni arrabales de miseria, ni leprocomios del esp\u00edritu. Esa es la revoluci\u00f3n de la igualdad. …<\/p>\n

Al igual que para Hostos, Puerto Rico es mi punto de partida. Tambi\u00e9n es el de todos ustedes. Sigamos el ejemplo de Hostos y consagremos nuestro porvenir el porvenir de Am\u00e9rica.’<\/p>\n
