El exgobernador, Ricardo Rosselló Nevares se despidió mediante un mensaje en su cuenta de Instagram en el que dijo que servir al pueblo ha sido 'su máximo honor'.

La renuncia de Rosselló Nevares fue efectiva hoy, viernes a las 5:00 de la tarde. Su última movida, dos minutos antes de que dejara el cargo, trató de una comunicación escrita en la que indicó que Pedro Pierluisi, su nominado a la secretaría de Estado para ser su sucesor, juramentaría a la gobernación mediante la Ley 7, con cuya enmienda de 2005 se hace posible la juramentación sin el aval de ambos cuerpos legislativos.

El exgobernador estuvo al mando dos años y seis meses. Su renuncia se anunció mediante un mensaje a traves de Facebook luego de semanas de manifestaciones multitudinarias. Las protestas iniciaron al ser revelado, por el Centro de Periodismo Investigativo, un chat de 889 páginas, en el que tanto Rosselló Nevares como sus principales colaboradores en el Gobierno de Puerto Rico, realizaban comentarios misóginos y hasta discutían asuntos de política pública con el cabildero, Elías Sánchez Sifonte.

Tras la revelación del mencionado chat, Rosselló Nevares pasó dos semanas atrincherado en La Fortaleza sin hacer apariciones públicas. Hoy, tras ser efectiva la renuncia del exmandatario, el Departamento de Justicia anunció que investigará los comentarios en el chat.
